What is SPRAVATO®?

SPRAVATO® is an FDA-approved esketamine nasal spray used to treat adults with treatment-resistant depression (TRD) and depressive symptoms in those with major depressive disorder (MDD) who have suicidal thoughts or actions. Approved in 2019, it is taken with or without an oral antidepressant for TRD and alongside an oral antidepressant for MDD with suicidal thoughts or actions.

How to get started

1. First Visit Consultation
You will first speak with our lead psychiatrist, Dr. Ramteen Rezai, who will collect basic information to see if eskatmine treatment is right for you. This visit is done via telehealth for convenience
We focus on insurance so you don’t have to
Your Care Team will also explain treatment payment options and review standard insurance plan criteria with you. We will coordinate with your health insurance provider to determine benefits.
IS SPRAVATO® COVERED BY INSURANCE?
Yes! Many major insurance companies cover SPRAVATO® if you haven’t found adequate relief after trying just TWO oral antidepressants.
A benefit of having treatment at TAK Center for Mental Health is that our Care Team does all the work for you regarding insurance. We assist all patients with the coverage and reimbursement process.

SHOULD I RECEIVE IV KETAMINE OR SPRAVATO® (NASAL ESKETAMINE)?

IV ketamine
  • Is not FDA-approved for the treatment of depression
  • Is not covered by many insurance companies
  • Is not offered at TAK Center for Mental Health

2. PRE-ASSESSMENT
Find out if SPRAVATO® nasal spray is right for you
Next, you will meet with a TAK Center for Mental Health-affiliated provider for an evaluation, which includes questions about your history and symptoms.
If the provider has determined that you are a candidate for esketamine nasal spray and you are ready to move forward, they will create your individualized treatment plan.

3. TREATMENT
You’re ready to start feeling better!
At TAK Center for Mental Health, we try to book your SPRAVATO® treatments to accommodate your schedule, whether morning or afternoon appointments work best for you.
After you arrive at the center, you will be placed in a reclining chair where you can sit back and relax. You will be handed a nasal spray device to self-administer. Your care team will supervise you for at least two hours. Afterward, you will need someone to drive you home from treatment. By the next morning, most people are ready to resume their day with no restrictions.
